Lately I’ve been exploring the concept of “unflattering” clothes that exist in my wardrobe. We’re told to dress for our body shape, to wear the colours that suit us and generally do our utmost to appear as attractive to others as possible. While in general I don’t object to this, enjoying dressing up and looking good, there are some things that objectively don’t look very good on me that I love regardless. Wearing unflattering clothes is also a tiny act of self-care; you’re not thinking about anyone else, you’re wearing what you want to wear and damn what anyone else thinks!
The red top in this post is one such item. As a girl with big boobs, anything that flares out from there tends to make me look pretty huge. However, I love the neckline on this top, I love the poofy sleeves and the tent-like shape, unflattering as it may be, is great when it’s hot out and a breeze around your boobs is exactly what you’re after. The colour is something new for me as well – I’m not really one for wearing red, but I’ve realised that it’s actually a colour I really like and want to incorporate into more of my wardrobe.
I know that often I care far too much about looking good and seeking validation from others, but every now and then I like to push myself by wearing something I really like, even if I know that others might say it doesn’t suit me. Not everything HAS to suit me. I just have to like it, and every now and then I think wearing unflattering clothes can be good for you.
Apologies for this being a shorter post and the general lack of content on here lately. I’m aiming to get back on it soon but my mental health is pretty dire at the moment and I’m feeling overwhelmed.
