Twenty Four Things I’ve Learned

As I’m turning twenty-five tomorrow, here are twenty-four things I’ve learned over the years.

  1. Everyone wants something, even if it’s just friendship
  2. Sometimes people don’t hate you; they just forget you
  3. There are too few hours in the day to care about people that don’t care about you
  4. The family you choose are the ones you should be loyal to
  5. Sometimes, you do just have to cut people out of your life for your own sake
  6. It’s possible to say no to something without being a dick
  7. Most people will respect your boundaries – and if they don’t, fuck ’em
  8. It is possible to burn plants with sunlight – rotate them around the room regularly
  9. I listen to my snap judgments of people, but also give them a chance to prove me wrong
  10. If you treat people with respect they won’t necessarily do the same
  11. Sometimes careless is the worst thing a person can be
  12. If your gut says there’s something wrong, it’s worth listening to – better to be wrong and safe than right and in danger
  13. A genuine smile will often get you a free cookie in Pret
  14. Don’t allow fandom to take over your life – there are more important things
  15. You don’t have to agree with your peers about everything, nor do you have to explain yourself
  16. Your friends are the people who will tell you when you’re being a twat
  17. It’s okay to stop and slow down; life isn’t a race
  18. Comparison is the enemy of contentment
  19. Shoes are worth investing in
  20. A bright rug and lots of cushions can make anywhere feel like home
  21. Look after yourself first, even if it doesn’t come naturally to you
  22. I am my own worst enemy
  23. Cycles of self-destruction cannot be broken alone
  24. I deserve to be cared for as much as anyone else

This post is part of All-in August, where I attempt to post every single day in August, despite it being one my busiest months. Keep up with it here!
