This has been a pretty stressful month for me, what with breaking up with my boyfriend and moving back to my Mum’s, plus job hunting. That’s reflected in some of this month’s favourites, as I found myself needing that extra bit of comfort, and these are the things that did just that.
MAC Patent Polish in Clever
I received this little gem in my May Look Incredible Beauty Box and it’s hardly been off my lips since. I’m not really a gloss person, with a bold matte lip being more my thing, but the Patent Polish has achieved the impossible and converted me to subtlety. I’ll never be a fan of sticky glosses, but I adore the moisturising formula of the Patent Polish and the colour is just enough to make an impact and is really flattering.
Laura Geller Spackle Eye Primer
I’ve had pretty puffy eyes of late and the cooling effects of the Spackle Eye Primer brings them right back to normality and leaves me feeling much more awake. This was another find from a beauty box, in this case the Look Incredible April Edition.
LUSH The Comforter Shower Cream
I’m pretty sure everyone loves LUSH for the innovative products and the fact that everything smells incredible, and The Comforter is my absolute favourite scent. Aptly described as “a cuddle in a bottle” it smells of blackberries and bergamot and also comes in a bubble bar form.
Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel
I reviewed this book earlier this month and absolutely loved it. It’s a little bit sci-fi, a touch of romance and a good whack of holy shit what just happened? I’ve read it twice this month and am now eagerly awaiting the sequel, and there‘s going to be a film and I am very, very excited about it!
Yankee Candle Lemon Lavender
This is how I‘ve been getting to sleep lately. I‘ve always loved the smell of lavender but this candle has lemony undertones that take away some of the heaviness, making it perfect for drifting off.
Neil Gaiman Chris Riddell Print
One of the first things I did when I moved back to my Mother‘s was hang this print. She bought it for me last Christmas and it’s a print of a Neil Gaiman quote illustrated and signed by Chris Riddell. I love it, and it reminds me that even when it all turns to shit there’s light at the end of the tunnel. It doesn’t go with the colour scheme of my old room at all, but I kind of like the clash!
There’s no way in hell she would ever let me post a photo of her on the internet, but she’s definitely one of my favourites this month and every month. She may drive me mad, but she picked me up with no notice and drove me back to our hometown and let me move straight back in, rent free. She refuses to downsize from this giant 4 bed house when it’s just her and the cat, just in case my brother or I ever need a place to go, and this month she was proved right. She’s a mad old hippy who is a little too obsessed with Led Zeppelin and thinks the cat is eventually going to figure out how to speak, but I love her, and I’m extremely grateful that I have her.
A slightly soppy May Favourites, I promise June will be less emotional!
